Tanjung, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Methane Tanjung II again test the production of methane in wells TJ-2 Village Walangkir, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, in hope it can be developed as a new energy source.


"We've been doing the drilling of three methane gas wells in the Tabalong and trial production in wells TJ-2 is expected to be developed economically," said General Manager of PT PHE Metan Tanjung II Tonny S Priantono here on Tuesday, in the inauguration of the Tj-2 Coal Bed Methane (CBM)-P1 by Regent Tabalong, Anang Syakhfiani.

Five wells targeted in coal methane gas drilling in the Walangkir following the issuance of licenses and site permits by local government.

Earlier in 2013, PT PHE had tested production in three wells scattered in the village of Walangkir and Pulau Ku`u village, sub-district Tanta.

"As one of the alternative energy sources, methane gas is a new thing in Indonesia and Tabalong become one of the areas that have the potential of this gas," said Tony.

Exploration activity in TJ-2, according to Manager Operations Adi Purwanto, lasts about 17 days and there
were five wells that become a source of coal methane gas in this region.

Regent expects methane gas drilling activities in the village of Walangkir can have a positive impact on the economy of local communities.
