Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjarmasin City Government owned Water company PDAM Bandarmasih's management planting 1,100 greening trees in Public Forest Park (Tahura) Sultan Adam, Banjar District.


It is the second time, the utility company planting trees here. In 2012 PDAM also done reforestation by planting 1,000 trees. Thus it already planted 2,100 greening trees on the site, said its PR Siti Nurisiah to the press in Banjarmasin on Saturday.

Trees planted are of a variety of fruits and other species as a concern of the taps company for water catchment areas. Without control of the water catchment area, the quality and quantity of raw water of Martapura River and Riam Kanan reservoir will be disrupted.

If the water quality and quantity disturbed, it will also disrupt the supply of raw water for drinking water to be processed. Then its customers will be disturbed.

That is why Tahura forest area should be maintained, especially Riam Kanan Reservoir area, used not only for supply of raw water to the taps, but for many other benefits as a source of water for hydropower generation Ir PM Noor, irrigation and fisheries activities for farmers.

General Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Ariyati Farida, who took part in the tree planting, said the tree planting activities in the region Tahura is part of an effort to preserve nature.

Head of Tahura Sultan Adam Unit Akhmad Ridani said the condition of the forest area in the upper foothills Meratus and Tahura Sultan Adam suffered severe damage as a result of the still rampant of illegal logging and mining, such as gold mining.

An estimated 40 percent of the 112,000 hectares Tahura damaged and is in critical condition. This condition is a serious problem and need time and cost to restore it.
