Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Military Resort Commander (Danrem) 101 Antasari Banjarmasin Infantry Colonel Muhammad Abduh Ras said the TNI-AD or army is ready to help governments and farmers in improving food security to accelerate national food self-sufficiency program.


Danrem here on Thursday said Army soldiers will participate actively in the success of the agricultural programs in 13 districts and municipalities in South Kalimantan, as a commitment to participate and
realize self-sufficiency program in Indonesia to 2017.

"In 2015, the Army and the Ministry of Agriculture, working together to achieve food security, that Indonesia should not again to import food from other countries," he said.

The government, said Danrem, through the Ministry of Agriculture has the trust and confidence that through cooperation with the Army food security program can be realized.

Through national programs, he said, soldiers of the Army, particularly Babinsa (village supervisory non-commissioned officer) throughout the Military Command (Kodim) will accompany the agriculture officers.

"Babinsa members in South Kalimantan have been trained farming techniques, irrigation, use of agricultural tools to the introduction of seeds," he said.

He explained that the task of soldiers in the field, of which helped identify farmland that has potential, but it has not worked up, in addition to identify the problems faced by farmers.

"Our members can help provide counseling to farmers because it is usually in the areas of agricultural extension workers is limited," he said.

He added that members of the military will ensure the distribution of fertilizer to the hands of farmers and used for agriculture alone.
