The environmental organization Forum Komunitas Hijau (FKH) or Green Community Forum in Balangan is now conducting a large-scale nursery of enau or sugar palm (arenga saccharifera) to be used for greening or reforestation in various locations in South Kalimantan Province.

Akhmad Rizani, a FKH Balangan member, told Antaranew Kalsel on Tuesday that the seeding is being done by FKH Balangan, whose based in Panggung Village, South Paringin.

The seeds were taken from nature, under the old enau tree. The fallen fruit grows on the ground, then was taken into a polybag already filled with soil as the media.

The nursery was inspired by Chairman of FKH Banjarmasin Mohammad Ary, who previously talked about the benefit of enau for reforestation and as a livelihood.

Mohammad Ary, said Akhmad Rizani, hoped that FKH Balangan to carry out a nursery to be then planted in the Pipitak Jaya Dam in Tapin District, and in Loksado, South Hulu Sungai District.

Planting for environmentalist means greening. FKH Balangan then searched for the seeds to collect them in one place. FKH has scheduled to greeen Pipitak Jaya area in early April.

Reportedly, at the same time there will be meeting among green communities in Loksado Village, as well as discussions on how to green the area. The activity will be facilitated by the Kalimantan River Area Agency (BWS).
