The major flood in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District, South Kalimantan, on January 14, 2021, had inflicted a loss in various sectors, including tourism, especially in the sub-districts of Batu Benawa and Hantakan, the worst hit by the flood and landslide.
Head of HST Youth, Sport, and Tourism Agency (Disporapar) Wahyudi Rahmad said that eight tourist attractions, as reported by their managers, had inflicted a loss of more than IDR2 billion (about US$144,000).
"The worst is Riam Banjandik in Baru Village, Waki, Batu Benawa Sub-district, with a loss of IDR673 million. All its facilities were destroyed and washed away by the flood," said Wahyudi to ANTARAnews, Monday (Feb 15, 2021) in Barabai.
The second worst hit was Pulau Mas, also in Waki, with an estimated loss of IDR542 million.
Meanwhile, the government-owned Pagat Batu Benawa, was also affected and inflicted a loss of IDR420 million.
Then Limbuhang Cave with a loss value of IDR258 million, the Manggasang attraction IDR170 million, Baruh Bunga IDR130 million, River Tubing Meratus IDR19,5 million, and Loglaga Ria IDR35 million.
"The eight tourist objects were heavily damaged," said Wahyudi.
Head of the agency acknowledged that there is no assistance at this time, however, his party is working on it.
"We have reported this loss data to the South Kalimantan Tourism Agency and to the Ministry of Tourism to be known and to provide support and to take a further policy for their recovery after the flood," he said.
Because the incident was a disaster, the assistance was not pre-programmed in the district budget (APBD).
"The possibility we discuss it in the revised APBD, so we can re-function the damaged tourist attractions according to the district capabilities," he said.
