Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Kotabaru District Government plans to develop a forest of white meranti (Shorea Polyandra Ashton P) in Sebelimbingan Village, North Pulaulaut, Kotabaru, up to 1,000 hectares.


"This time the white meranti forest has only an area of 8.3 hectares (ha) and we aspire to the future of white meranti in Sebelimbingan expands to 1,000 ha," said Regent Kotabaru H Irhami Ridjani while inaugurating Eco Tourism White Meranti Forest Sebelimbingan on Tuesday.

In addition to preserving the scarce type of wood, the presence of white meranti woods can also be used as one of the objects of eco-tourism, and as a germplasm or types of plants research by research institutes or universities.

The development of white meranti eco-tourism can also be done by placing several types of animals, such as deer, birds, proboscis monkeys, monkeys, butterflies, or others.

"So where white meranti woods ecotourism are multifunctional," he said.

Expert Staff of the Forestry Industry Revitalization at the Ministry of Environment Bejo Santoso expecting the white meranti forest eco tourism not only preserve white meranti. But have a broader function, namely tourism, research and recreation.

He explains, white meranti now remaining 8.3 ha, originally planted by PT Ihnutani approximately 300 hectares.

Director of Development Inhutani II, Tri Joko Sujono in Kotabaru, Friday (11/12) said that many factors led to the shrinking of the crop area in Sebelimbingan meranti. "Among other things, because looted and harvested by people who are not responsible," said Joko.
