Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of Tabalong Plantation Agency, Mugeni, said no additional programs given for extensive rubber plantation, while plantation in the region has reache 75,000 hectares or 98 percent of the land area outside the forest.


"The rubber land expansion program is not going to be starting next year, but still we carry rubber planting through the rejuvenation of old or unproductive rubber," said Mugeni in the here on Wednesday.

Termination policy is also related to the local rubber price drops as a result of higher production of world rubber.

Tabalong Government started doing some anticipation of further decline in the local rubber prices by developing other commodities than rubber in order to increase people's income.

One of them is intercropping rubber with the sugar plant that besides it high productivity levels also friendly towards other crops.

"Intercropping with palm plants held in the old rubber land to transform into a spacing of 3 x 17 meters and started our trials in Muara Uya, Haruai and Bintang Ara," said Mugeni again.

Each year local Plantation Office prepares 5,000 palm seeds for the development of intercropping program in three districts.

Currently the land area that is still productive reached 59,000 hectares, including 10,000 hectares of old rubber plantation. while 11,000 hectares of young plants.

Tabalong Plantation Office also began to test the development of rubber plantation intercropping with cocoa and spices such as pepper. One of them in the village of Salikung, Muara Uya, that intercropping rubber with pepper.
