Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The source of raw water from Riam Kanan irrigation channels processed by regional taps water company PDAM Intan Banjar not polluted by the millions of fish carcasses.


Technical Director of PDAM Intan Banjar Umar Said in Banjarbaru on Wednesday said the quality of the treated water through a water treatment plant (IPA) 2 Pinus guaranteed healthy and safe.

"The source of raw water is not polluted by fish carcass and the quality when processed through the IPA 2 guaranteed are safe for consumption after cooking," he said.

As is known, millions of tilapia and pomfret species reared in floating net cages by farmers in Karang Intan and Aranio were dead due to oxygen deprivation.

Mass death of fish consumption was due to the closing of the door of Riam Kanan reservoir and millions of fish carcasses were dumped into the river, which is part of irrigation upstream.

According to Said Umar, raw water from irrigation channels before being distributed to customers was processed through a chemical and disinfected so that the bacteria die.
