Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Regent H Irhami Ridjani is now promoting Kotabaru's batik named "Batik Saijaan".


"I hope batik Saijaan be accepted as typical of the area and became one of the types of national clothing," said Irhami, while receiving the 2014 Borneo Award in the category of successful figure dressed neatly and tidily on Tuesday.

To promote batik Saijaan, regent and local government carry out promotion through mass media and electronic, and exhibitions. Even in some schools in the district, students are required to wear batik Saijaan as one of the school uniform.

Chairman of PKK Kotabaru Sri Maria Ningsih said today batik Saijaan marketed locally, but in the future it is targeted to enter markets outside the region.

According to Kotabaru Regent's wife, one of the objectives of the development of local batikis to improve the economy of Kotabaru society, particularly women, in helping the family economy.

Batik Saijaan had swordfish motifs, which is one part of the emblem of Kotabaru district, in addition to mountains, beaches and sea.
