Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - South Kalimantan provincial government plans to build a Banjarmasin-Syamsudin Noor Airport toll road up to Martapura.


Head of Economic Bureau of South Kalimantan Government Nana Adriani Noor, in dissemination discussion on regional economic organized by Bank Indonesia in here on Tuesday, said the construction of this toll road is a support infrastructure for the development of the airport.

According to Nana, October 2014 planned to be "ground breaking" for Syamsuddin Noor expansion development. The construction is targeted to take 2-3 years.

"When the airport is completed, it will be the largest airport in Kalimantan, even larger than the Balikpapan airport," he said.

In line with the development of the airport, he said, South Kalimantan government is also planning the construction of the toll road, which crosses northern ring up to Sambang Lihum Hospital proceed to the
airport. Then from the airport toll road to be built to Martapura.

The toll road would be an alternative to anticipate traffic congestion, as the economic growth of South Kalimantan, with increased investment into this area.

"The construction of the road is one way to welcome ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015," he said.
