Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Mandastana, a subdistrict in Barito Kuala, South Kalimantan, Sector Police arrested a farmer who allegedly burned land.


When confirmed, the Mandastana Police Chief Ipda Imam Suryana on Friday said it had arrested a resident suspected of burning land in the area.

"We have arrested a farmer initials Ab (59), resident of Tatah Layung, Subdistrict Mandastana, Thursday (25/9) night, on suspicion of causing fires," he said.

The area burned due to Ab negligence estimated to 50 hectares. In fact, there are about five borongan (a land measuring 17x17 meters) of other residents' unharvested paddy fields suffered loss due to fire in the two villages: Tatah Layung and also Tanipah village.

"After a while we went around looking for the origin of the fire, we believe it began at Ab land, and public testimony also strengthen it," he explained.

Ab recognized, fire possibly due to he carelessly discard cigarette butts in the bushes.

"I was cutting the grass in my area the size of five borongan. Indeed, at that time I smoked and my butt waste just like that," he said when asked by reporters.
