Amuntai, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Farmers of cage fish farming in North Hulu Sungai (HSU) suffer loss every year due to cultivation of which they develop many died as a result of changing conditions of Balangan turbid river.


One of the cage farmers in the village of Tangga Ulin Hulu, Ghazali Rahman, in Amuntai on Friday said that as a result of river water is often discolored the majority of tilapia in cages dead.

"Every year turbid river water can be up to three to five times, if it is so usually many tilapia in cages die," he said.

The changing color of river water, Ghazali said, could resulted by erosion occurred upstream due to frequent cutting of trees and lack of reforestation.

But reflecting on the case a few years ago, he said, the color changes to brown water river could also caused by industrial waste pollution. As a result the company is blamed and should pay compensation to the farmers.

Until now, there is still cage farmers demanded help to the company, if the cages fish they owned many died as a result of changes in river water.
