Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Banjarmasin Water police keep a close watch over ferry vessel for crossing into the village of Jalapat, Tamban, Barito Kuala district. It is located next to Floating Market Pier, Alalak, North Banjarmasin. 

Chief of Banjarmasin Water Police AKP Untung Wibowo here on Thursday said a very monitored is the payload capacity to avoid accidents such as what happened in the river Kapuas, Central Kalimantan, where one of ferry sunken due to the exceeds load and raises many casualties. 

"Before the ferry accident in the Kapuas river, we have been supervising the cargo capacity of ships crossing the river, including the highly supervised ferry crossing in North Banjarmasin and Tamban," said Untung. 

Likewise, he added, the weather and the physical conditions of vessel that operate, should be very controlled, because it must have safety standards for passengers. 

He said ferry in the Alalak pier at the time of Eid mudik (homebound) season and reverse flows is still quite normal, as passengers are not too significantly increased.
