Head of South Kalimantan Central Statistics Agency (BPS) M Edy Mahmud said, the province's economy based on its Gross Domestic Product (PDRB or GRDP) has contracted -2,61 percent.
"The economy of South Kalimantan in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the second quarter in 2019 experienced a contraction of -2,61 percent (year-on-year)," he said in a monthly virtual press conference in Banjarbaru, Wednesday.
He said the PDRB based on the prevailing price in the second quarter of 2020 was IDR43,78 trillion and at the constant price in 2010 was IDR32,33 trillion, thus the South Kalimantan economy grew by 0,67 percent.
When compared to the previous quarter (q-to-q), the economy in the second quarter contracted -0,02 percent. From the production side, on y-on-y basis, the deepest contraction in the second quarter was transportation and warehouse business -9,25 percent.
Then followed by mining and excavation -6,03 percent, and government administration, defense, and mandatory social security -3,53 percent.
Based on the source of economic growth in the second quarter (y-on-y), the highest source came from information and communication business 0,27 percent. Health service and social activities 0,12 percent, and real estate 0,05 percent.

Meanwhile, from the expenditure, the components with the deepest contraction were government consumption expenditure (PKP) -5,36 percent.
The structure of South Kalimantan's GRDP, according to business at the prevailing price in the second quarter of 2020 is still dominated by four main categories, namely mining and quarrying 16,44 percent, agriculture, forestry and fisheries 16,24 percent, processing industry 13,24 percent, and wholesale and retail in car and motorcycle repair 10,60 percent.
"Economic growth in the second quarter to the first quarter in a series usually experiences a positive growth phase," he said.
However it was not in 2020, as the economic growth was in the contracted zone, but relatively small as it was held back by rice harvest cycle which began to enter its peak.
