Small and Medium Industries (IMK) assisted by the Kotabaru Cooperative, Industry and Trade produced personal protective equipment (PPE) in the form of hazmat suit to help medical personnel in serving patient exposed to COVID-19 in the district.

Kotabaru Regent H. Sayed Jafar, through the Assistant of Economy and Development H. Akhmad Rivai said, the SMEs ability in producing hazmat suit was also supported by Directorate General of Small, Medium and Various Industries (IKMA) of Ministry of Industry and South Kalimantan Industry Office.

The hazmat suit were handed over to Kotabaru Health Agency for medical personnel in the Stagen Quarantine Hospital and community health centers in the handling of COVID-19 patients.

Making hazmat suits, in addition to help the district government in procuring PPE, also to restore the economy of the community, especially small and medium industries that weaken due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

While companies or state-owned enterprises through their CSR program and environmental development can order SMEs to producePPE in providing medical equipment for the needs of health workers and the community.

Rivai said, the making of hazmat suit involved seven tailors and one instructor. They took technical guidance for five days with the support of the deconcentration fund from South Kalimantan Industry Agency and produced 70 suits.

Previously, 550 sasirangan-based three layer cloth masks were made by five tailors and one instructor for three days of activities with the support of deconcentration fund, Rivai said.
