Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Residents of Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan expect, large estates operating in the region to also empowering locals.

"The hope that they convey when I did recess last week to the area," said H Muhammad Zaini, South Kalimantan DPRD member before following an increase in human resources and leadership to the board members to Jakarta on Tuesday.

Tanah Laut (Tala), Tanah Bumbu (Tanbu) and Kotabaru Districts were crowded in recent years with large plantation business, such as oil palm plantations. 

"But a lot of the large plantation companies brought workers from other areas, such as Java, and less utilize local labor," said representatives of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) as quoted local residents.

"And they (the locals), especially for those who do not have land and certain livelihood also need work for their incomes and welfare of the family," he said.
