Head of the Banjarmasin Class I Port Authority Office (KSOP) Dr Capt Mugeni S Sartoto stated all shipping companies in South Kalimantan had been asked not to sell tickets of ship for Surabaya - Banjarmasin route.

The decision, according to him, was to follow the governor's circular No.188.44/0210/KUM/2020 dated March 31, 2020, concerning restriction of inflow of people coming from outside South Kalimantan.

Previously, he also received a circular letter from the Director-General of Sea Transportation No.SE/2020 concerning restriction on ship passengers, logistic transportation, and port service during the COVID-19 emergency.

"Because there was previously the director-general's circular, so we can carry out the governor's circular," he said, Wednesday (April 1, 2020).

As of April 1, Surabaya - Banjarmasin roro ship may no longer transport passengers. While Banjarmasin - Surabaya passengers are still allowed to be transported.

The decision, he added, has been coordinated with the port authority in Surabaya, both formally by letter and directly informally.

Upon this decision, Mugen assured that all shipping companies were ready to carry out.

"We have also disseminated this decision to all shipping companies and they have no objection," he said.

Especially, passenger transportation from Surabaya to Banjarmasin has decreased a lot, averaging around 60-70 people per ship.

In fact, since the outbreak of COVID-19, in the last few days, four ships had only carried 150 to 170 passengers.

The restriction, he explained, only applies to passengers, while logistic and freight transportation run as usual.

How long it will last, according to Mugeni, it will be adjusted to the development of conditions as stated by the South Kalimantan Government's Task Force on COVID-19 Handling and Prevention.

"I always coordinate with the team to ensure the development of the policy," he said.
