The Class I Banjarmasin Immigration Office TPI (Immigration Checkpoint), South Kalimantan, restricts passport service which only prioritizes urgent need such as sick people who cannot be delayed by referral to a doctor.

"The principle is that the applicant's interest cannot be delayed and the condition requires him to leave the country immediately," said Head of The Class I Banjarmasin Immigration Office TPI Anton Helistiawan to Antara News, Thursday (March 26, 2020).

The policy, according to him, followed up the circular from acting Director-General No.IMI-GR.01.01-2114 concerning restriction on immigration services in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the Immigration Office.

"We support the government's stay at home program as an effort to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition to protecting our officers who are at high risk of contracting while on duty," he explained.

The Banjarmasin Immigration Office has also temporarily closed passport services at the Barabai Passport Service Unit until a time limit to be determined later.

Currently, some countries are implementing quarantine or lockdown, so they cannot be visited and of course no residents who travel abroad.

Anton added, foreigners, do not need to apply for a residence permit under the condition of necessities, because if the residence permit has passed the time limit (overstay) a fee will be charged at zero rupiahs.

"This applies to foreigners who enter Indonesia territory after February 5, 2020. While the online passport service quota has been deactivated," he said.
