Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, has reported having enough stock of beef until Eid al-Adha.

Head of Tanah Bumbu Agriculture Agency Faurazi Akbar through the Head of Animal Husbandry Berkat in Batulicin on Wednesday (March 18, 2020) said, the demand for meat in the district reached 800 kg per day or about nine heads of cattle.

"While the number of cows ready to be slaughtered until Eid al-Adha in Tanah Bumbu reached 2000 heads. This means the number is very sufficient for the next few months and we make sure all are healthy," Berkat said.

Previously, to ensure this, the agency had deployed about 20 veterinarians to check the health of cows before and after slaughter.

If after being slaughtered found undeserved things found in the body, for example, tapeworm in the heart, officers immediately confiscated the beef so the trader not to sell it.

At present, about 50-70 percent of cattle stock ready to be slaughtered are from the local farmers, while the rest are brought from Sulawesi and Madura.

To increase the local cattle population, the Agriculture Agency is implementing Gertak Birahi and Inseminasi Buatan (GB-IB) or lust snapping and artificial insemination program on the cattle and has an achievement of encouraging targets.

"Even the Tanah Bumbu became a pilot district in South Kalimantan for its success in implementing the GB-IB program," he concluded.
