The Regent of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) H Abdul Wahid stated his government will no longer rehabilitate the riverside roads if landslides hit them because the level of vulnerability to landslides is very large.
"If repaired, the landslide roads along the riverbank will last only for a maximum of one year, then sliding again, especially if they built with concrete," Wahid said in Amuntai, Tuesday (March 10, 2020).
It better, according to him, to build a new road that are more inland, because of they safer from the threat of landslide that occurs every year.
He revealed, due to a long drought added with heavy rain lately there were quite a lot of landslides reported, especially in the Sub-district of Haur Gading.
Acting Head of HSU Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Agency H Maliki said, the agency no longer dares to build or repair riverbanks.
"Need not a small budget to repair landslide road. We recommend alternative roads to be built far from riverbanks," Maliki said.

He also asked villagers not to build roads on the banks of a river, including to erect buildings, because land with a distance of 15 meters from the riverbank is state land.
"If people continue to repair road alongside the landslide riverbank, and using village fund, it's up to you, but the local government cannot fix it," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Bina Marga Rahmani said, the local government allows the village to provide land or land grant for an alternative road, then the government could help to pave or concretize it.
"As long as the road is available and safe away from the riverbank, the local government will help, " Rahmani.

Based on data from the HSU Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in 2019 as many as four villages in Haur Gading Sub-district experienced landslide, namely Waringin, Teluk Haur RT 2, Pulan Tani RT 1 and 2, and Jingah Bujur Village.
Landslide in Pulan Tani caused four families to flee. While in Teluk Haur four education facilities in an Islamic boarding school suffered damage, and place of worship was also affected.
