The Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) unanimously supported the establishment of the new Tanah Kambatang Lima district, which is now fought for by representatives from 12 of all 21 sub-districts in the Bumi Saijaan (Kotabaru's nickname).

The DPRD speaker Syairi Mukhlis said, all factions in the legislature unanimously supported the formation of the new district.

From the result of the 2019 election there are eight faction in the Kotabaru parliament, namely PDIP, Golkar, Persatuan Pembangunan, Kebangkitan Bangsa, Hati Nurani Rakyat, Amanat Nasional, Keadilan Indonesia Raya, and Nasdem Demokrat Indonesia.

"Not only agreed, but all factions supported the establishment of the new Tanah Kambatang Lima District which is now being fought through representatives of 12 sub-districts," Syairi Mukhlis said after chairing a hearing about the aspiration of a mass who staged a peaceful rally at the DPRD, Monday (Feb 24, 2020).

He said the big reason of their support was clearly what they were striving for part of the goal of the central government for the sake of accelerating development in the regions.

At the same time, related to relocation of the state capital in East Kalimantan, then Kotabaru and surrounding areas should automatically prepare themselves as buffer zones.

The PDIP politician said the aspirations of the Presidium of the Forum Komunikasi Masyarakat Banua Daratan Kotabaru (FKMB-DK) or the Kotabaru Mainland Community Communication Forum were indeed the aspiration of the 12 sub-district who demanded the New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Tanah Kambatang Lima District.

The 12 sub-districts are Kelumpang Selatan, Kelumpang Hilir, Kelumpang Hulu, Kelumpang Utara, Kelumpang Barat, Kelumpang Tengah, Pamukan Selatan, Pamukan Utara, Pamukan Barat, Hampang and Sampanahan.

"The result of the hearing today is as a basis of reference for the Kotabaru DPRD in budgeting changes following an assessment team to be formed by the executive," Syairi said.

Before the hearing, hundreds of people carrying banners and pamphlets bearing the demand of the separation of Tanah Kambatang Lima District held oration in front of the Kotabaru Regent's office.

After a joint force of police, Kotabaru Naval Base, DPRD Kotabaru, and the district government, in orderly they headed for the DPRD to follow a hearing.
