Banjarmasin won an award as the city concern of human rights on the commemoration of World Human Rights Day on December 10, 2019 at the Merdeka Building, Jalan Asia Afrika, Bandung, 

The award was presented by the Director General of Human Rights Mualimin Abdi to the Mayor of Banjarmasin H Ibnu Sina.

Commemoration of Human Rights Day was attended by West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Human Rights Mahfud MD, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly and Director General of Human Rights Mualimin Abdi.

"I hope the achievements we have been obtained can continue to be maintained," said H Ibnu Sina while receiving awards at the event, which was attended by a number of governors, mayors and regents throughout Indonesia.

Mahfud MD said the community must be clear seeing that the protection of human rights is now much more advanced, as it does not only provide guarantees for protection of civil and political rights (ICCPR), but has also extended to human rights protection in the economic, social and cultural (ICESCR) also called Ekosob.

"For the Ecosob problem, a lot has been done by the government through economic development programs, poverty reduction, educational equity, affirmation policies, and social assistance and so on," he said while delivering his remarks.

Banjarmasin City Government has received five awards in a row as a city that cares about human rights since 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and until now in 2019. This is proof that the City Government has always succeeded in respecting, protecting, and fulfilling the human rights of its people.
