Nature lovers Community (Mapala) of college level throughout Indonesia, in their series of 23rd Talk Gathering Field Introductory (Temu Wicara Kenal Medan) in South Kalimantan, set to explore Mt Meratus, the core of protected forest in the province.


About 280 Mapala from all over Indonesia took part in the event, said executive committee Muhammad Arifin at the opening of the 23rd TWKM at the Antasari State Islamic University (UIN) Banjarmasin, Monday (Oct 21).

Their journey to Mt Meratus was in accordance the theme of the event, "The National Movement of Students Nature Lovers Throughout Indonesia to Save the Last Nature Resource" #Save Meratus. Thus the point of their event was in the area of Meratus.

"We want the Mapala of all over Indonesia to see first hand the nature beauty of Borneo, especially the charm of Mt Meratus," said this member of UIN Antasari's Mapala.

Arifin said, the talk gathering took place at the nature attraction of Kiram Park, Banjar District, while field introductory will be in Mt Hutan in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District.

The next is mount climbing at the Mt Batu Laki in South Hulu Sungai (HSS), and the second field introductory located in Alinateh Cave in 
HST.

"There is also an environment introductory at the Curiak Island in Barito Kuala District. Indeed it is not in the area of Mt Meratus, but here is the conservation of bekantan (proboscis monkey), one of kinds of animal live in Meratus," he pointed out.

From the journey, Arifin said,  all participants will witness the exploitation of natural resources contained in the Meratus Mountains.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry stated it support to Mapala of all over Indonesia reverberated #Save Meratus in this event.

Secretary of Human Resources Development of the ministry Sudayatna when attending the 23rd TWKM in Banjarmasin said, Mapala is an element of community who are very concern about the environment, so that their activities are strongly supported by the central government.
