Kite players came from various places in South Kalimantan, even Indonesia and Malaysia, to compete in kite festival officiated by Barito Kuala (Batola) Regent Hj Noormiliyani AS at the former World Food Day commemoration parking lot in Jejangkit Muara Village.

The competition was marked by kite flying symbolically by Deputy Regent H Rahmadian Noor, witnessed by members of the district leaders coordination forum (forkopimda), heads of government agencies, sub-districts heads, and residents, Saturday (Oct 19).

There was also an exhibition of kite fight between Regent Hj Noormiliyani and Commander (Dandim) of 1005 Marabahan Military Command Lt.Col. Cav. Sugianto. It turned out regent won the match.

Chairman of the Archipilego Kite Activists Association (Talikama) Herdjono, Malaysian kite activist H Nasri Abdullah, Chairman of East Java Kite Association Adip Hamsi, and Chairman of South Kalimantan Kite Association M Rapi and his collegue H Asran, Chairman and Secretary of FKPPS South Kalimantan Adi Kartika and Yuniar.

On the first day, diverse kind of giant kite, such as dragon, jellyfish, human, with various creative adorned the sky of Jejangkit. Whereas the competition of new was on the second day.

"They show off deliberately possibly to entertain visitors at the same time to try out their kite before competing tomorrow," said one of visitors.

Regent Hj Noormiliyani AS when opening the event said the festival of kite was the first in Batola. She expected the festival did not only provide view of various kind of kites on the sky, but also to entertain, educate, as well as for silaturahmi.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Talikama Herdjono said kite is a family type sport that can be envolving all ages and all groups in all places in Indonesia. It benefit, he said, is to preserve traditional culture and able to support tourism.

Especially for Jejangkiy, Herdjono assessed it as very prospective for kite festival, even for a larger scale either nationally of internationally.
