Commander of 1006/Mtp District Military Command (Dandim) Lt. Col. Arm Siswo Budiarto declared his readiniess to fight land and forest fire in the surrounding area of Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Airport, which is prone to hotspot.

"We are ready to fight the fire. No matter how small the hotspot is directly handled by our field personnel to prevent wider impact," he stated here, Friday. 

The fight, he said, focus on hotspots to appear at anytime because of large forest and vacant land prone to fire during the dry season.

Dandim deployed hundreds of TNI personnel to standby and patrol in the surronding area of the airport and outside the area to deter hotspots which potentially could cause the fire.

"The number of soldiers on guard and on patrol as many as 130, which consisted of Kodim (District Military Command) personnel and Yonif 623/BWU personnel and supported by members of BPBD (Disaster Mitigation Agency) Banjarbaru and fire-care community," he pointed out.

According to him, the personel deployed were not the taskforce specifically assigned to handle forest and land fire, but they were Kodim and Yonif (infantry battalion) soldiers who do this voluntarily.

"Our decision to deploy soldiers outside the taskforce is on the basis of doing state duties, working for society, so no special budget is prepared," he revealed. 

Meanwhile, Head of the BPBD Banjarbaru Surianor Ahmad stated his very support to the step initiated by the dandim. He said ready to deploy his staff and the available equipment in an effort to prevent and extinguish fire.
