The city government of Banjarmasin planned to move floating market in North Kuin, which was once the most famous of its kind and the icon of tourism.

North Banjarmasin Sub-District Head Apiluddin while at the legislative council building on Friday said the new location of the floating market  will be the South Kuin right at area of the siring or river embankment infront of the Sultan Suriansyah Tomb.

"Just moving the location, because the floating market in the North Kuin is now starting to lack its existence," he said.

Number of female merchants keep declining as transaction continued to decrease and it needed a solution to continue to preserve.

"The Floating Market in Kuin is old in age, it has become an icon of Banjarmasin, even national, of course it would be a pity if it is not like the past in activities," Apiluddin said.

Many Floating Market traders, he said, wanted to move to a more strategic place, not far from the original location thus they can survive looking for sustenance.

"What is right is indeed at the river area in front of the Tomb of Sultan Suriansyah, more closely visited, there is also a pier, of course visitors or tourists are more easily invited," he said.

Related to the artificial Floating Market in the Siring Martapura River tour on Jalan Piare Tendean, he said, because it is in the center of the city, easily accessible, developed and advanced, so it only operates on Saturdays and Sundays.

Of course, he said, the preferred floating market attraction should be more than that, because it is active every day.

He stated the need for a solution to overcome the problem and to advance market activity.

"At the location of South Kuin, it will become a package with its religious tourism. Here we have a historical tomb and mosque from Sultan Suriansyah, so it would be just right," he said.

However, he said, it was still in the plan and had to be studied in more depth in all respects, including in terms of culture and history so as not to cause negative interpretations.

"Certainly the purpose of this plan is to advance the budget and the sustainability of the floating market, because it has become a cultural and tourist icon of our region, even nationally," he said.
