Banjarmasin, 23/5 (Antaranews, South Kalimantan) - Local governments in South Kalimantan can take East Java province to be a model in dealing with vagrants and beggars, and street children.

Vice Chairman of the Special Committee of South Kalimantan Provincial Legislative Assembly (DPRD) to discuss draft About Vagrant, Beggars and Street Children (Gepeng & Anjal) Prevention, H Budiman Mustafa, was speaking on Thursday, as a by-by the special committee comparative study to East Java some days ago.

Budiman, who is also Vice Chairman of Commission IV DPRD on People `s Welfare, admits East Java provincial government  has no regulation on gepeng and anjal, but they do work with districts/municipalities in handling gepeng and anjal squashed on a" Memorandum of Understanding ". The cooperation is mainly in terms of funding with the help of the provincial government, while district /municipalities do the operation.

He admittedly, it is impossible to erase vagrant, beggars and street children as a whole, but at least the major areas of urban centers, such as in traffic lights or crossing free of them. This is seen in the city of Surabaya. In the area of traffic lights looks clean from gepeng and anjal, but for certain areas, such as suburbs, beggars are still visible. "For example, around Ampel Surabaya, pilgrimage areas, there are still visible many people begging," said Budiman Mustafa.

Draft on beggers and street children in South Kalimantan is an initiative of the board  on the recommendation of Commission IV of the provincial assembly, with the aim, among others, that the region which comprising 13 districts /municipalities free from gepeng and anjal.
