Tourism Minister Arif Yahya said land and forest fires that occurred in several provinces in Indonesia have not disrupted the tourism sector.

Foreign tourists, said Arif after attending the peak of the 69th Anniversary of the South Kalimantan Province in Banjarmasin, are still quite a lot visiting various national tourist destinations.

"Until now there has been no report related to the impact of land fires on national tourism, everything is still proceeding as usual," he said.

This, he added, is likely to occur because fire handling by all related parties is carried out quickly and is more integrated.

"If a few years ago, forest and land fires were enough to disrupt the tourism sector, this year there has been no effect," he said.

The Minister of Tourism was in a working visit for a four days in South Kalimantan to review various tourism attractions. He was also attending the 69th anniversary of the province.

According to Arif, South Kalimantan has extraordinary and unique tourism potential, so he believes, its tourism will develop very quickly.

Not only Meratus Geopark has been established by the National Geopark, but other tourism potentials to be encouraged to develop and grow into international tourism.

"We agreed that South Kalimantan to become one of the world's tourist destinations," he said.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor invited all people to continue to work hard in building a better region.

"Let the whole community work hard, don't be lazy, to improve mutual prosperity," he said.

Sahbirin claimed to be very proud of the achievements of the hard work done in recent years.

According to him, the recognition of Meratus Geopark as a National Geopark and now being brought to Unesco is one proof of that hard work.
