Tabalong District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said there were two hotspots monitored by satellites following the rise of land and forest fires in a number of sub-districts.
BPBD Tabalong member Fakhri said that the observed hotspots were in Upau and Pugaan Sub-districts. "Since Thursday until today we have found land fires in a number of sub-districts," explained Fakhri.
Peatland fires occurred in Binturu Village, Karangan Putih Village, and today in Sei Pimping Village.
Head of Forest Protection of the Tabalong Forest management Unit (KPH) Zainal Abidin said the hotspot in Upau was within the working area of PT Adaro Indonesia.
"Hotspots at Adaro's location are related to coal deposits and we have reported to the company for handling them," said Zainal.
Following up on the rampant cases of burning down the land, the police through its bhabinkamtibmas continues to carry out efforts to promote and
prevent forest and land fires.
Tabalong Chief of Police Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Hardiono said although law enforcement measures had not yet been taken, preventive measures were still being carried out on the owners of the burned land.
"Preventive action can be in the form of reprimands and the ability in writing to keep the land from recurring," Hardiono explained.
