A total of 37 villages from 214 villages and urban villages in North Hulu Sungai Regency (HSU) are prone to drought during the long dry season that the BMKG predicts will occur in the next few years.

The District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) since the beginning of last week routinely conducted patrols with TNI and Polri officials in an effort to anticipate land fires.

"Together with the TNI, Polri, and Manggala Agni and the community, we from BPBD conducted forest and land fire (karhutla) patrols in areas that have the potential for land fires, in order to prevent even high fire cases," said HSU BPBD Emergency and Logistics staff Udi Hartono in Amuntai on Thursday.

Udi said, the patrol simultaneously monitored the conditions in the community to find out the existence of disaster management facilities along with the task force or voluntary workers in the village.

The joint team also socialized and urged the public not to burn land and avoid certain activities to avoid the impact of natural disasters.

Based on HSU BPBD data, the villages potentially affected by drought including Banjang Village, Kaludan Besar and Kaludan Kecil in Banjang Sub-district.

While in North Amuntai are Cakru Village, Panyaungan, Teluk Daun, Pandawan and Muara Baruh.

Two villages in the Danau Panggang sub-district are also estimated to be affected by drought, namely Darussalam and Teluk Mesjid Village.
