A number of farmers in Tanah Bumbu are threatened with crop failure due to flooding that has hit several sub-districts in the district.

Said Hasim, a wetland rice farmer in Kusan Hilir Subdistrict, Batulicin, Wednesday (19/6), said that due to the recent high rainfall intensity, rice fields in a number of sub-districts were submerged.

"About five hectares of rice ready for harvest are threatened with crop failure due to inundated for days, and it is feared that it will rot if water does not recede immediately," he said.

At present what can be done, farmers must begin to pick the rice that is still left and can be saved. The results are also small, only to cover the cost of care, because almost 100 percent of the rice is submerged in water.

Head of the Agriculture Service Setia Budi, through the Head of the Food Crops and Horticulture Division Robby Candra, explained that in some sub-districts there were around 1,000 hectares of rice fields inundated and threatened with crop failure.

"The most affected rice fields are in Kusan Hilir and Kusan Hulu Subdistricts, which reach 600 hectares," he said.
