Children and adolescents now mostly know snacks and modern foods which are feared to contain preservatives, which endanger health, they do not recognize traditional cakes,Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Regent North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Abdul Wahid encourages the preservation and development of local culinary specialties which are increasingly eroded by the growth of modern and contemporary cakes.
The local government, he said, provided assistance in the form of promotional facilities to introduce the specialties, especially to the younger generation. One of them is by providing stalls for small and medium micro enterprises (MSMEs) who produce the specialties, free of charge at the Ramadan market.
The HSU PKK Chairwoman Anisah Rasyidah Wahid said the young generation now has very little knowledge about Banjar's wadai (cake), because it is difficult to find on a common day.
Some local cakes, she said, are even rare, such as 'gaguduh barandam' (gravy fried banana), cingkaruk, wajik, and others.
"Children and adolescents now mostly know snacks and modern foods which are feared to contain preservatives, which endanger health, they do not recognize traditional cakes," Anisah said.
As Ramadan arrived, said Anisah, these rare types of traditional cakes sprang up in the Ramadan markets.
Local governments through the Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Agency (Disperindagkop and UKM) hold a Ramadan market, one of which aims to preserve local specialties and cakes.
Head of the agency Ahmad Redhani Effendi said, the local government had free 45 booths for selling and parking lots so that traders and the public enlivened the existence of the Ramadan market.
