Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District seems to be no longer short of doctors. The local government made a policy by providing scholarships to the best students in the district to study at the Faculty of Medicine.

Head of Public Welfare Section of Secretariat HST Akhmadi said previously 10 students who had received medical scholarships from HST Government, namely 2 students in 2014, 3 in 2015 and 5 in 2016.

According to him, last year the scholarships were given to as many as 10 students, thus currently there are 20 scholarship recipients who are studying at University of Lambung Mangkurat's medical faculty.

This year the scholarship will be given to 5 students (class 2019).

Acting Regent H A Chairansyah admitted that the government had not been able to provide maximum health services to the community. The main causes is the district still lack of doctors, especially for puskesmas (public health service).

He explained that currently doctors in HST are mostly non-native Barabai. Finally on holidays, especially Eid, not rarely no doctors at the health center even in the hospital, due to leaving home or other reasons. As a consequence, people who want to get health services at that time will experience difficulties.

Through the district doctor program, he hopes health services to the community will be optimal, because the conditions for recipients of medical scholarships must return to the HST and serve in the area of their birth.
