Every day there is always land burning both empty land and peatland, so that every day a helicopter is deployed to water the burned land,Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The South Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) requested an additional helicopter for water bombing to deal with forest and land fires in the province.
"We are asking for additional helicopters to BNPB (the National Disaster Mitigation) and shifted two helicopters from Central Kalimantan and West Kalimantan has been processed to strengthen the bombing in South Kalimantan," said Head of BPBD South Kalimantan Wahyudin in Banjarbaru, Sunday.
He said the request for the additional helicopter because of one unit of helicopter sent by BNPB since mid-August was quite overwhelmed to overcome the fire points which had no decline.
Almost every day there are always hotspots, he pointed out, causing forest and land fires, especially in districts and cities prone to fires due to empty land or peat.
"Every day there is always land burning both empty land and peatland, so that every day a helicopter is deployed to water the burned land," he explained.
One helicopter that had operated for almost a month bombed water 70 times back and forth to the hotspots in one day for almost seven hours.
"The helicopters operate every day 70 times bombing water to the fire point and every time carrying 3 thousand liters of water from the water capacity of 5,000 liters," he said.
He said the entire region of South Kalimantan contained burnt areas with varying put it in the status of alert for very easily burned forest and land.
"Recapitulation of burned land area from data on Friday (9/14) reached 2,005 hectares spread across all districts and cities," he said.
The areas of burnt recorded from 1 January to 14 September 2018 with a total of 552 forest and land fires. The most burned areas are in Banjarbaru reaching 467.03 hectares, then Banjar District covering 418.33 hectares, Tapin 334.65 hectares, and Tanah Laut 311.1 hectares.
Next South Hulu Sungai 170.6 hectares, North Hulu Sungai 96 hectares, Kotabaru 47.9 hectares, Central Hulu Sungai 32.3 hectares and Tanah Bumbu 39 hectares.
Furthermore, Balangan 45 hectares, Tabalong 28.5 hectares, Barito Kuala covers an area of 12.3 hectares and Banjarmasin City 2 hectares, making the total of 2,005.21 hectares.
