Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan through the local Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) develops pandanus woven into high economic value crafts.

Chairwoman of the South Kalimantan Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) Raudhatul Jannah Sahbirin Noor in Banjarmasin on Monday said since many years craft in the province has become one of the backbones of the economy of society.

Thus, she added, it needs continuous efforts to improve and encourage the creativity of craftsmen to continue to innovate so as to compete with handicrafts from outside.

"(For that reason) we have held a craftsman training to develop creativity for higher economic value," she said.

One of which was the training for design and technology process of pandanus leaves woven. Young entrepreneurs and craftsmen groups were invited to attend the training.

"We know the benefits of pandan leaves for the community quite a lot, one of which can be used as basic material in making mats, bags, or other household items that can bring additional income," she explained.

Pandanus leaves, Raudhatul Jannah said, are very easy to find around the home environment or wet places. It usually grows well, though not done through special maintenance.
