Academic: Pulau Laut drowned if mined

Banjarmasin, (Antaranews South Kalimantan) - A University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) academic Dr H Mohammad Effendy suggested Pulau Laut, Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan, to be free of mine. He said it will be drowned if mined.

"Already counted by experts will most likely be drowned, so I hope Kotabaru is free from the mine," he said in Banjarmasin on Monday.

To save Kotabaru from the great risk of destruction, said Effendy, it is time for local people to refuse mining activities.

"For the future of our children and grandchildren Kotabaru must be saved, because Pulau Laut is the heart of the district capital should not be damaged, let alone it has a variety of potentials, such as tourism, plantations, and agriculture that can be encouraged by local government to continue to be developed," said the Dean of Faculty of Law of ULM to AntaranewsKalsel.

Meanwhile, the issue of two mining companies will be operational in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) which now makes restless and worried the public, according to Effendy must be addressed seriously by the local government.

He also regretted if HST finally touched by coal mining, Because HST is a conservation area and few areas in South Kalimantan that has no mine.
