Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) conducted a comparative study to Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan, to learn about waste management and environmental handling.

The speaker of the council Hj Alfisah after coming from Balikpapan said on Sunday the success of the city in waste management and environmental handling is complete.

"The real proof of its success in waste management and the excellent environment is the continuous winning of the cleanest city awards (Adipura) for years," she said.

Alfisah explained, many positive sides gained in the good and correct waste management. In addition to a clean and comfortable environment, it raises the economic value.

Balikpapan utilized waste as a source of energy in the form of methane gas, compost, and others.

"Even with good and proper management, this sector can also be used as a tourist attraction," she said.

Much is gained from the comparative study, she said, but one thing that is considered very good and should be imitated is the public awareness of the importance of maintaining the environment and manage the waste properly.
