Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor said the ratio of electricity needs is needed in the province that now consists of 13 districts and cities.
He was speaking when submitting a draft of regional regulation (raperda) on electricity in South Kalimantan at a plenary session of the provincial legislative council (DPRD) headed by its chairman H Burhanuddin here on Tuesday.
The reason, according to the number one person in the provincial government, the overall electricity needs continue to grow in line with population growth and development.
"The ratio of electricity needs of South Kalimantan, which now has a population of more than four million is certainly different with the era before regional autonomy when only 11 districts and cities and a population of about 3.5 million people," he said.
"While the power is an important requirement, the facts show electricity in South Kalimantan has not met local needs," continued Uncle Birin (a nickname for Sahbirin).
Therefore, in accordance with the mandate of the Law No. 23/2014 on Regional Government, the government of South Kalimantan intends to regulate electricity in accordance with the existing authority.
"In accordance with Law 23/2014, South Kalimantan Provincial Government intends to arrange electricity supply, especially for those who can not afford," said Uncle Birin.
Electricity regulation is primarily for the provision of electricity by private or outside the state electricity company (PLN), such as companies that sell electricity because of the excess needs of the company.
