Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - General Manager of PLN South and Central Kalimantan Main Distribution Unit Iwan Sulistijono said that the state-owned firm is considering nuclear power plant.
The PLN GM for two provinces made his statement when he and a number of the company's officials visited the South Kalimantan Bureau of ANTARA News Agency in Banjarmasin, Thursday (June 19, 2025).
He underlined that the nuclear-based electricity is no longer need to be worried about as before, because the technology for utilizing nuclear for electricity has been mastered so it is safe for the environment.

Meanwhile, he expounded, the dependence on the use of coal-powered steam power plant (PLTU) should be reduced, considering the reserve of this mining material is dwindling.
If associated with environment, the use of non-steam power such as nuclear power is considered quite environmentally friendly.
Based on records, Indonesia has sufficient uranium as nuclear raw material, thus it is not a problmen to switch to nuclear power plants.
West Kalimantan is considered to have abundant of uranium reserves for the needs of using nuclear technology.
PLN GM and officials visited ANTARA News Agency's bureau to strengthen collaboration, especially in publication for the public.
"We want to continue to collaborate with ANTARA intensively to voice positive values, especially PLN, for customers," said Iwan.
They were welcomed by the ranks of ANTARA South Kalimantan Bureau, including Senior Editor H Hasan Zainuddin and H Imam Hanafi represeting Chief of the Bureau Taufik Ridwan Sodikin.
Iwan, who has just been appointed as GM PLN South and Central Kalimantan, appreciated ANTARA's support so far in publishing information that has greatly educated the public regarding the electricity condition serving the two provinces.
