Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar reviewed protected forest in Tebing Siring Village, Bajuin Sub-district, Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, on Thursday (4/5).
"This visit is in preparation for the visit of President of Indonesia Joko Widodo to review the location of this forest," said Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar in Pelaihari.
According to her, the protected forest of Tebing Siring Village is planned to be converted into regular forest status and to be managed by the surrounding community.
"This forest management has actually been done by the community, as evidenced by the planting of sticky rice and teak," she said.
Separately, Regent Tanah Laut H Bambang Alamsyah said, local government strongly supported the management of community forest.
"This kind of activity shows that the community is very ready to manage the lands that have the potential to be managed," he explained.
