Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian rowing team is poised to face the final qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics in Luzern, Switzerland, on May 19-21.
"For our last qualification in Switzerland, our teams will compete in four categories namely LM2X, LW2X, M4-, and M2-," the coach of the Indonesian rowing team, Okhan Adris, said on Sunday.
According to him, the last qualification tournament will be much harder, since countries that have not yet been qualified will battle hard for Paris 2024 tickets.
In the Olympic qualifications for the World Rowing Asian & Oceanian Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regata in Chungju, South Korea, on April 19-21, Indonesian men's rowing athlete La Memo secured a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Adris said that the Indonesian rowing team has been training in Chungju, South Korea, since April 4 to prepare for the last qualifier in the next month.
"The initial team (M4- & M2-) will depart on April 22 and train in the Netherlands until May 15, before heading to Switzerland. The other teams will follow because their visas have not been issued by the Dutch Embassy," he explained.
The Secretary General of the Indonesian Rowing Association (PB PODSI), Edy Suyono, hopes the Indonesian rowing team can succeed in the last qualification to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"Women team is our mainstay. We hope double sculls can pass the qualification and compete at the Olympics even though competition in Europe is tougher with American athletes and others remaining," he remarked.
In the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Indonesia sent their duo Mutiara Rahma Putri and Melani Putri who competed in the women's lightweight double sculls event.
