Beside, the traffic on the bridge is very dense,Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan Antaranews) - Head of the Banjarmasin Highways Agency Gusti Ridwan Sofyani revealed that considering the age of Pangeran Antasari Bridges which was built in the Dutch era it need to be renovated.
"The bridge that crossed the Martapura River is the authority of the provincial government. It has been about five years we asked (that the bridge) to be renovated," he said in the hall of the city legislative council on Tuesday.
He said Pangeran Antasari Bridge is the oldest bridge in the city of Banjarmasin. Certainly the strength of the bridge worth to be feared, so it needs to be renovated.
In addition, said Ridwan, the bridge which is adjacent to Sudimampir Market is getting very low in the water level of the river, making it less conducive to the smooth water transportation.
"Because of a lot of causes, then we apply for the new bridge construction. Beside, the traffic on the bridge is very dense," he explained.
Ridwan admitted that the city government has not gotten certainty when the bridge to be renovated by the provincial government, though it gave a response.
"Our hope as soon as possible, because there are other similar bridges need to be renovated on the Martapura River, such as the Lama Market bridges and Dewi bridge," he explained.
According to Ridwan, there are seven bridges that spans the river of Martapura. Each is very important for the smooth flow of traffic in the provincial capital, which had already very dense.
