"I urge all stakeholders to truly commit to pursuing cross-institution coordination as well as conducting aggressive intervention measures in many sectors in order to address the poverty issue," the Vice President stressed at an event in Ternate on Friday, according to a statement received here.
The event was entitled “Stronger Village Development and People Empowerment Towards Indonesia With No Stunting and Extreme Poverty.”
He said that two major strategies can bring down the extreme poverty rate to zero percent: increasing in village revenue and reducing the burden of work.
He also urged village companion personnel, particularly the ones dispatched to North Maluku, to contribute more to the efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.
"Village companions (have) to assist village leaders and apparatuses in improving program convergence in places where poverty is prevalent, particularly, areas in which there is a high concentration of families that fall in the extreme poverty (category)," he said.
General secretary of the Village, Disadvantaged Regions Development, and Transmigration Ministry, Taufik Madjid, disclosed that village funding is being wired directly to village bank accounts as one of the efforts to pursue their goal of zero extreme poverty in 2024.
"By sending village funding directly to village bank accounts to villages all across Indonesia, (the initiative) has a significant contribution to, among other things, pursue the zero percent or near zero percent of extreme poverty rate target by 2024," Madjid noted.
The event was attended by some regional officials, vice presidential staff, as well as officials from the Village, Disadvantaged Regions Development, and Transmigration Ministry.
