Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The price of processed rubber in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, began to rise from the previous Rp4.700 per kilogram to Rp6.400.


According to Mujiono, rubber farmer in the village of Kasiau, Sub-district of Murung Pudak, Tuesday, the condition is quite encouraging local rubber farmers.

"Now lump bowl processed rubber started to rise to Rp6.400 per kilogram, whereas previously dropped to less than Rp5,000 per kilogram," said Mujiono.

Although the price of locally processed rubber began to improve, some rubber farmers still complained about the low market price of latex in the region that impact increasingly weakening purchasing power.

"Just as coal business, rubber business was sluggish, while the price of basic commodities more expensive," complained Wati, rubber farmer in the sub-district of Tanjung.

Although the Government has launched Tabalong Society Movement to Improve Rubber Quality (Gemas Mekar), but not significantly improve rubber farmers welfare, including the price of this commodity.

Head of Tabalong Forestry and Plantation Agency Aberani Aberar said rubber prices fluctuate in the market due to the influence of national price and quality of processed rubber.

"We already urged farmers to produce better quality processed rubber to be able to sell at a higher price, but the fact they still producing low-quality bowl lump," Aberar explained.

Processed rubber with better quality can be sold at Rp10 thousand per kilogram up, of course with a lower water content. While rubber farmers here have not been able to stop the habit of immersing rubber in the river that impact to low quality rubber and damaging the environment.
