Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Off-roaders take part in adventures play their role in helping local governments to clear new access to still unopen areas.


"Not only for the race, but off-roader can help the government to clear a path for new road," said committee chairman of Meratus Two Days Adventure (MTDA) 2016 Syarifuddin after the release of racers on Friday.

Banjarbaru Deputy Mayor Darmawan Jaya Setiawan waggled the flag to start the race. 131 off-roaders from all regions in the South Kalimantan took part in the event.

According to him, the routes to be crossed by hundreds of off-roaders are still unopen areas in and out the forest, so it can be used as the opening of new roads program.

"For the off-roaders in and out the ordinary forest is common, and it is expected route and the path traversed can be a pioneer road to be eventually built by the government," he said.

He hoped that the government should not only build roads in urban areas, but also be able to allocate a budget to build a pioneering way.

"We see still quite a lot of areas not yet open due to lack of access roads, so that through the role of off-roader, the roadway may be a pioneering way," he hoped.

On the other hand, he said, off-roaders can also seek help in case of disasters such as floods, land and forest fires and other natural disasters.

"A lot of positive activity can be done by off-roader including mobilizing social action and provide relief to disaster victims located in remote area," he said.

South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor expected, all off-roaders that crosses Meratus mountainous areas can be more aware of natural potential in each route.

"Our hope, off roader can be more aware of potential Meratus mountainous nature and convey it to others so that South Kalimantan become better known," he said.
