Pollution is not only in the form of coli bacteria, but a variety of waste either directly or not can endanger the health of those who consume,
Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Former Minister of Research and Technology (Menristek) H Gusti Muhammad Hatta said the waters of the river in South Kalimantan requires serious attention from all sides as pollution level is high enough.

"Pollution is not only in the form of coli bacteria, but a variety of waste either directly or not can endanger the health of those who consume," he said on the sidelines of the technical and assessment coaching and Technical Working Meeting for Adipura in Banjarbaru (35 kilometers north Banjarmasin) on Wednesday.

Although now back to being a lecturer at the Lambung Mangkurat (Unlam) University Banjarmasin, the post-graduate professor of environment claim himself still often receives information about the level of river water pollution in South Kalimantan.

"If the coli bacteria contamination, we can overcome them, among others, by not passing stool (bowel) into the river," he said.

"Indeed, people's behavior has been reduced in recent years from bowel habits to the river. It was visible with reduced latrines on the river," he said.

But there is also the need of common concern, he said, especially for those who live along the river in order to build a permanent toilet stool so that feces as the major cause of coli bacteria do not seep out.
