"We do prevention, because according to the rules of buying and selling baby fish are prohibited," said Chief of Water Police unit AKP Untung Widodo Sst in Banjarmasin, Friday.
He said Satpolair will cooperate with the Fisheries Agency and Fish Landing Sites Unit Banjarmasin in the raid.
"Vessels from the outside Banjarmasin and any ships carrying fish found in the waters of this city will be examined," he said.
Satpolair ready to take any action against the vendors who bring baby fish through the river after cooperation with related agencies.
While the Agriculture and Fisheries Agency previously conducted raids against traders who sell baby fish in some traditional markets.
"The raid was carried out to give deterrent effect to the traders who sell baby fish, because it is prohibited by local regulations (Perda)," said Head Section of Supervision and Management of Fisheries Resources Herlina in Banjarmasin.
Head Freshwater Fish Landing Sites Banjarmasin Mansyur said that many baby fish traded on the market was brought in from outside.
"Most baby fish traded comes from Banjar, Marabahan and Nagara, South Hulu Sungai," he said.
"We will coordinate with Satpolair to take action when baby fish taken through the river," he said.
