Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - The Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, waters is secure from drug and luxury goods smuggling, said local Customs officials.


"Kotabaru not prone to smuggling of drugs and foreign goods, because it does not include in outermost areas or borders with other countries. So it is safe from smuggling," said the Head of Enforcement and Investigation Office of Oversight and Customs Service Type Madya C (KPPBC TMPC) Kotabaru Hendra Bharata here on Thursday.

Nevertheless, KPPBC TMPC Kotabaru remains vigilant against smuggling by conducting a detailed examination of the foreign ships that enter the territorial waters and dock at the Kotabaru pier.

He admits the entry of luxury goods to Kotabaru and Tanah Bumbu in last few years, especially luxury cars that are not available in Indonesia.

"Upon arriving at the dock, luxury cars by companies that import directly taken care of the administrative apparatus to KPPBC TMPC Kotabaru and other relevant agencies to get the legality of goods," he explained.

According to Hendra, smuggled goods are made possible by foreign vessels is a cesspool of garbage from neighboring countries, such as Singapore, because the country is difficult to dispose of waste bins, so that the waste could be smuggled by ship.

"But until now, we did not find any waste from Singapore to Kotabaru," he explained.

Alluding to cigarette smuggling in the form of goods or consumables, Hendra does not deny that there is a possibility of unscrupulous crews sell a particular brand of cigarettes after coming onshore.

"To take action there must be a report, but to this day KPPBC TMPC Kotabaru not received reports of the circulation of smuggled cigarettes," said Hendra.
