HSU taekwondo coach Rusilawati here on Monday (July 4, 2022) said the district dispatched only three athletes of 729 taekwondo athletes who competed at the event, and all three athletes struck medals.
"HSU taekwondo athletes bring home three gold medals and one silver," she said.
Wana grabbed a gold medal in the women's individual Poomsae Senior category, while M Husien Azmi struck a gold in the men's individual Poomsae Senior class, and the two athletes won another gold in a Poomsae Pair Senior category.
Whereas silver gold won by Shafira Raisa Nabila in women's individual Poomsae Precadet.
Rusilawati, who is also the daily chairman of HSU's Indonesian Taekwondo (TI) thanked all parties for their support to these athletes, especially the HSU Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office (Diporapar) and the HSU National Sports Committee (KONI), to facilitate the athletes to compete at the national championship.
"Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) they finally made a good name of HSU District at the national event," she said.
Rusmilawati hopes that the achievements of these athletes will encourage and inspire athletes of other sports, to train harder, because it is not impossible for them to excel at the natioal level.
The taekwondo national event was held to commemorate the XVII National Sport Week (PON) held in 2008 in East Kalimantan.
