"Commencing on January 26, 2016, we can report the number of deaths due to dengue to eleven people from the previous eight people on January 18th, 2016," he said in Banjarmasin on Wednesday.
He said that the highest number of deaths due to virus infected by Aedes aegypti mosquito is still Kotabaru with three victims died.
While the death toll in district of Banjar, Barito Kuala (Batola), Tanah Laut (Tala), Tanah Bumbu (Tanbu), Tapin, North Hulu Sungai (HSU), Central Hulu Sungai (HST), and South Hulu Sungai (HSS) respectively one victim.
"Additional number of dengue fatalities were from Hulu Sungai areas," he said.
Until January 26, 838 people have been stricken with dengue. While last year (2015) at the same date 1,180 people attacked, where 15 of them died.
"We hope that with intensified dengue alert in all areas by health authorities in 13 districts and cities we will be able to stop the loss of life and outbreak," said Achmad Rudiansjah.
Especially, he said, in the most cases, namely HSS and HSU where more than 130 people attacked by dengue.
"Indeed, the upward trend in dengue cases usually in January to March when rainy season causes a lot of puddles as a breeding ground for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes," he said.
Rudiansjah hope, the incidence in 2015 not repeated this year. Last year, dengue cases in 13 counties and cities amounted to 3,589 cases, when as many as 40 people were killed.
